There is a lot of confusion about many Christian subject and none more than about what the Bible says about hell. Today’s devotional will help you clear some of it up. God bless you!
Because of Calvary,
Matthew 10:28 (ESV)28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.[a]
Luke 19:27 (ESV)27 But as for these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slaughter them before me.’”
Matthew 25:41, 46 (ESV)41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
“Hell is not simply the natural consequences of rejecting God. Some people say this in order to reject the thought that God sends people there. They say that people send themselves there. That is true. People make choices that lead to hell. But it is not the whole truth. Jesus says these choices are really deserving of hell. ‘Whoever says, “You fool!” will be liable to [that is guilty of, or deserving of] the hell of fire (Matt. 5:22). That is why he calls hell ‘punishment’ (Matt. 25:45). It is not mere self-imposed natural consequence (Like cigarette smoking leading to lung cancer); it is the penalty of God’s wrath (like a judge sentencing a criminal to hard labor).” [John Piper, What Jesus Demands of the World, (Wheaton, IL: Crossway Books, 2006), p. 93]
