If someone gave you a precious treasure, would you treat it like just any old thing, carelessly? You reply, “Of course not!” Don’t be too sure. A precious treasure has been given you in God’s Word. How careful are you handling it. Do you race through a chapter saying,”I’ve done my Bible study for the day”? Do you let someone bend it and twist it or do you do so yourself? Today’s devotional will challenge you to handle with care. God bless you.
Because of Calvary,
II Timothy 3:16-4:2 (ESV)
16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God[a] may be complete, equipped for every good work.
1 I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: 2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.
If the words of God are rightly understood, they will be found faithful and true; but we are not to think that God is under any obligation to verify the comments which we may put upon them…. If we entertain a just reverence for the Word of God, let us never mingle the truths of it with out own false conceptions, nor imagine that it can fail to be accomplished, because it would be unreasonable to think that it will be accomplished according to our own views of its meaning.[George Lawson, The History of Joseph, (London: The Banner of Truth, 1807), p. 9]
