Galatians 6:7 (ESV)
Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.
Proverbs 6:27-28 (ESV)
Can a man carry fire next to his chest
and his clothes not be burned?
Or can one walk on hot coals
and his feet not be scorched?
“In the city of Basel, Switzerland, each year there is a carnival that takes place at the beginning of Lent. It is much like the Mardi Gras except for the fact that Basel is a Protestant city and so it holds its carnival after Lent begins instead of before Lent. Basel’s carnival is always a wild affair with all the debauchery that one associates with a carnival season. Everyone knows what goes on, even though they may not know exactly who does it because the people wear masks. Each year the Salvation Army uses the carnival season to advertise the gospel in a striking way. All around the city the Army places billboards and posters containing the German words, ‘Gott sieht hinter deine Maske!’ This means, ‘God sees behind your mask.” [James Montgomery Boice, Philippians: An Expositional Commentary (Grand Rapids: Baker Book House, 2000), p. 176]
